The Audi RS6 (RS stands for ‘Racing Sport’ here) is a top-of-the-line version of the Audi A6. It’s a five-seat station wagon in which excellent performance, non-problematic but truly enjoyable handling, attractive design, and an impressive range of available state-of-the-art features are masterly combined.
The Audi RS6 is like a phoenix: no matter how many times it was killed, it rose self-born from the ashes all the same. Audi ceased the car’s production twice – in 2004, when it was substituted by the RS4 model, and in 2010, two years after it entered the market after the first discontinuation. Thanks God, it was resumed in 2012, giving us an opportunity to take delight in its perfection.
Chris Evans, who writes for the Daily Mail, admits in his article on the Audi RS6 (published on August 23, 2014) that it’s impossible to treat the auto with indifference. You’ll fall in love with it as soon as you get behind its wheel. According to the expert, it’s ‘the first ever genuine family supercar, an indisputable masterpiece of modern engineering’. He’s sure that ‘if cars ruled the world, this beast would be king’.
So, let’s find out what the fuss is all about.
The 2015 Audi RS6: Exterior & Interior
The Audi RS6 is 1,979 mm in length, 1,663 mm in width (with mirrors included, it’s 2,086 mm), and 1,461 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,915 mm. Compared to the model of the year 2008, the auto cut some weight. Now, its curb weight is 1,950kg while gross weight is 2,580 kg. The RS6’s monocoque body is made of aluminium by 20%, all the rest is steel.
The 2015 Audi RS6’s exterior is facelifted. It looks refreshed and sportier although more aggressive. The auto got new 20-inch alloy wheels and different wheelarches. Its new front bumper is so low that it seems to touch the ground any second. The RS6’s presence on the road cannot be ignored.
Not just the front but also the rear of the auto is changed. This element also adds a hostile flair to the whole image of the vehicle being painted in dark colours instead of bright ones. The taillights are also redesigned.
Although the RS6’s interior design is somewhat old-fashioned (it hasn’t been changed for a couple of years), you won’t care. A package of modern gadgets scattered around the cabin won’t give you a chance to ponder over it.
In the Audi RS6, practicality and comfort are in harmony with sport car performance. Amazingly comfortable seats will mitigate the road’s shortcomings and will make you relax. There’s much head- and legroom both front and back. Even tall passengers will be comfortable there. With the seats in place, trunk capacity of the RS6 is 130 litres while a maximum figure is 270 litres.
Performance & Mileage
The most powerful auto the automaker offers today is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 TFSI quattro engine that generates 560 hp at 5,700-6,600 rpm and 700 Nm of torque at 1,750-5,500 rpm. It’s coupled with an 8-speed tiptronic transmission. Fuel-injection technology used can also be found in racing cars of the Le Mans. The RS6 can reach 62 mph in 3.9 seconds with 155 mph top speed.
However, the Audi RS6 can hardly be called fuel-efficient (there are environmentally friendlier vehicles in the class) and it’s the only disadvantage of it. This AWD car runs 21.1 mpg in the city and 38.2 mpg on the highway (29.4 mpg combined) emitting 223 grams of CO2 per kilometre. The tax rate is going to be rather high. Still, if it weren’t for an advanced cylinder-on-demand technology and some others, it could be even higher.
With the help of the Audi drive select function, you can change the car’s on-road behaviour as you want. Choose among dynamic, comfort, individual or auto driving modes to adopt your driving style.
Matrix LED headlights the new Audi RS6 can boast make driving at night or in poor weather conditions not just much easier but safer, too. They make the road clearly seen for the Audi’s driver and don’t dazzle other traffic participants. Using the auto’s exterior and interior sources (navigation system, cameras, etc.), the headlights adjust their intensity as required.
The 2015 Audi RS6 also offers multi-function steering wheel; heated, auto-dimming, power exterior mirrors with automatic curb view function; four-zone automatic air conditioning; MMI Navigation Plus. Front seats are heated while a driver’s seat is electrically adjustable with lumbar support in addition. Rear seats are split-folding.
Moreover, Audi allows drivers of the RS6 to select packages, which are sets of features and technologies, for making the ride even more carefree and pleasurable. Packages available are parking pack, parking pack advanced, entertainment pack, dynamic package, dynamic package plus, assistance pack, and convenience pack.
An infotainment system is represented by a driver information system with a colour 7-inch display, MMI Radio Plus, BOSE surround sound with more than 14 speakers across the cabin, Bluetooth, Audi Music Interface, etc.
The 2015 Audi RS6 offers front and front side airbags along with curtain airbags and child seat mounting. Safety is also ensured by hill-hold assist, cruise control, Audi parking system plus, Audi active lane assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS, electronic stability control, anti-slip regulation, Audi side assist, etc.
