Bugatti Veyron

Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron has already become a legend lifetime. After all, any production car can’t reach 400 km / h, and 1001 hp until recently was considered almost unattainable, available only to “Formula 1” cars. Initially, it was believed that the coupe was just a concept, which didn’t have serial future. The head of the Volkswagen Group Dr. Ferdinand Piëch thought differently and decided to revive the Bugatti. He knew that the glorious brand car can excite the interest, and he was right. The title of the fastest car added popularity to Veyron. But within a few years the situation has changed. In a short time there were other fast cars, and soon the American SSC Ultimate Aero hit Bugatti record. Franco-German company didn’t hesitate for long with the answer. Less than two years later, the world saw improved Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which could reach the speed of 431 km / h tested on 4 July 2010; this model will be described in Bugatti Veyron Review.

Exterior

To achieve such a result, the design did not receive radical changes, because it originally presented a certain margin of safety. External changes are not visible immediately. It is the same broad and low coupe in the neoclassical style. Modern details are combined with features of the old Bugatti of 30s. The connoisseurs may notice proprietary horseshoe false radiator grille and stamped “seam”, extending over the entire length of the car.

Powertrain

The improvements are functional. Thus, the main advantage of the car, its huge engine W16, is now hidden from prying eyes. It is covered with a special carboxylic lid, which improves aerodynamics. Improved front spoiler and a new double diffuser (like cars “Formula 1”) increase down-force, and the rear wing extends at a speed of 180 km / h instead of 220 km / h, as previously. The body is now completely made of carbon fiber, which reduced its weight by 50 kg. Nevertheless Veyron can’t be called light - 1838 kg.

To hit the record a thousand and one hp was not enough, so Bugatti engineers have finalized the 8.0-liter W16. They installed new turbines, intercoolers, and modified exhaust system. After that the car produced 1200 hp and 1500 Nm of torque was available even at 3000 r / min. By the way, precisely because of such a huge thrust the acceleration remained unchanged - 2.5 seconds.

One of the problems of the original Bugatti Veyron was its cooling of the engine. After all W16 with four huge turbines requires not small amount of air, so it is equipped with 12 radiators. Its output depended on the ambient temperature, so could vary from 987 to 1050 hp. The Super Sport has enlarged air intakes in the front bumper and two more holes in the roof. You can also notice the special light alloy wheels (20-inch front and 21-inch - rear) and increased nozzle of exhaust pipes.

Interior

Three-spoke steering wheel is now decorated with suede. The rest of the interior remains the same. Its design resembles the best tourist models and it is sometimes better than purebred sport cars. The seats and a wide central tunnel are lavishly decorated with high-quality black leather with bright orange inserts.

Veyron chairs have a carbon frame. They are extremely comfortable and great for long-distance travel. Moreover, they hold the body in high-speed cornering like a vise. The equipment includes: climate control, a rearview camera, a very expensive sound system, port for connecting MP3-player. But the navigation system is not even in the list of additional equipment. But there is a possibility to order unpainted body and the coupe will glitter with bare carbon.

Drive

Super Sport proves that the Veyron is not only the king of a straight track. Retuned suspension springs, new shock absorbers and anti-roll bars have improved the behavior of the car in virages. The rear spoiler provides additional down force at lower speed and literally put the coupe to the ground. In addition, at 220 km / h the car “squats”: ground clearance is reduced to 85 mm, and at 375 km / h it is already 65 mm. The steering is incredibly sharp and precise, but at the same time is surprisingly easy. Body roll is virtually absent. Light understeer is felt on the high-speed winding racetrack, but that is expected from the four-wheel drive vehicle. The weight of the Veyron is properly distributed: 45% of the weight goes on the front axle and 55% - on the back.
