The Chevrolet Tahoe (‘Tahoe’ is the name of a rough but picturesque area near Lake Tahoe, U.S.) is a full-sized SUV by GM produced since 1995. Originally, in the early ‘90s, it was called the Chevrolet Blazer.
The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe is a stylish SUV with luxury elements in exterior and interior design; it’s incredibly capacious and comfortable. But it isn’t it. The Chevrolet Tahoe is a vehicle of character. All told, it demonstrates as much strength and endurance as full-sized pickups do.
The latest Tahoe model is indeed superb. It can comfortably accommodate up to 9 passengers on 3 rows of seats, charge your devices and connect them to the Internet, keep those at the back entertained during a journey while easily coping with off-road conditions and towing a trailer or boat all at once.
Exterior & Interior
The Chevrolet Tahoe is of a truck type. Sharp lines, square body, aggressive look, and a commanding stance are inherent in it. Another feature that’s immediately noticed is its aerodynamic body. Evidently, the automaker has done their utmost in order to introduce a considerably more fuel-efficient Tahoe for the 2016 model year.
The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe shares some exterior features with the 2016 GMC Yukon, 2016 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
The SUV’s interior is the very reverse of its appearance. If the latter is angular and sharp, the cabin is saved from this. Instead, it looks elegant and cosy. The cabin tastefully trimmed with high-quality materials brings a premium feel. Take into consideration that there are a lot of colour schemes available for the model.
The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe offers 3 rows of seats for accommodating up to 8 people (3 people on the second and third rows and 2 (with a driver included) at the front). You can order a front bench. It’ll increase the SUV’s capacity up to 9 passengers. Also, there can be captain’s chairs in the second row. Note that in such a case, not 3 but 2 passengers can be seated here.
All the seats are supportive and power-operated. The ones in the third row must be meant for children or short adults, though. A single push on the button is enough to fold them down to increase cargo capacity. To return them into the initial position is as easy. The second row of seats is also folded down automatically but raised manually. With both rows lowered, the Chevrolet Tahoe’s cargo space is 94.7 cu ft.
A driver behind the wheel of this vehicle enjoys a superb view of the road thanks to a commanding seating position. Rear visibility isn’t a problem, too. The SUV offers a rear-view camera that makes manoeuvring reverse a piece of cake. Thanks to an electric power steering assist, a driver easily controls the vehicle even at high speeds and on poor surfaces still taking care of the environment – the technology improves the Tahoe’s mileage.
It’s noteworthy that annoying sounds made by other vehicles on the road as well as the Tahoe itself don’t penetrate into the cabin. Thus, you don’t have to raise your voice when you want to converse with the fellow travellers. The Magnetic Ride Control adjusts dampers for even more comfortable ride in the new Chevrolet Tahoe.
Powertrain & Fuel Efficiency
In keeping with tradition, the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, as a SUV of a truck type, exploits a V8 together with a large and heavy rear suspension. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the feeling that you’re driving a truck-based SUV is inevitable. The automaker took care of it. As a result, they engineered the SUV that cannot be compared with the previously produced models in terms of driving performance.
The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe is powered by a 5.3-litre engine that generates 355 hp and 383 lb/ft of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Direct injection and cylinder deactivation system the Chevrolet Tahoe is equipped with aim to make it more fuel-efficient and powerful. The latter turns the 5.3-litre engine into a 2.65-litre one shutting off some cylinders when the conditions are favourable (all the changes can be seen on the LCD display).
The new Chevrolet Tahoe comes with rear- or all-wheel drive weighing 5,500 and 5,700 lb respectively. Now tell me: is there any way it’s as fuel-efficient as some lighter vehicles? Of course, there isn’t. Still, the Tahoe demonstrates decent fuel economy rates in the segment.
The RWD SUV returns 16 mpg city and 23 mpg hwy while the EPA estimated its AWD model at 16 mpg city and 22 mpg hwy. Note that the rates depend on a driving manner.
The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe comes in the LS, LT, and LTZ trims. The higher you climb, the more numerous and advanced equipment your car gets.
Standard features the Chevrolet Tahoe LS offers include 18-inch alloys, rear-view camera, automatic climate control, cloth upholstery, conversation mirror, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. An infotainment system is represented with an 8-inch touchscreen, AM/FM/CD sound system, Bluetooth/USB connectivity, MyLink, and OnStar 4G LTE.
Move up and you’ll get a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel and leather upholstery instead of cloth with the LT trim.
The LTZ adds heated and cooled seats at the front, heated captain’s chair in the second row, keyless ignition, HID headlamps, and Magnetic Ride Control. The steering wheel isn’t just tilt-and-telescopic but also power-adjustable and heated.
Among options are a sunroof, power tailgate, and fog lamps. Besides, you can order a head-up display, seats with memory, satellite radio, and a rear-seat entertainment system.
The NHTSA estimated the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe at 5 stars for front and side protection but for the rollover crash test it got 3 stars.
Apart from using an incredibly strong structure, the Tahoe provides a rear-view camera and 10 airbags as standard safety features. The option list counts adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, GM’s Safety Alert Seat technology, and forward collision and lane departure warning systems.
