Daihatsu Terios

The Daihatsu Terios is a compact SUV by the Japanese automaker that was introduced in 1997 and has been produced since then. Currently, it’s in the second generation.

The Daihatsu Terios is available in an all- and rear-wheel-drive layout. This must be one of the reasons the SUV seems an alluring offer to customers from different social classes. If you’re a budget-oriented buyer, you can opt for its 4x2 model, which comes at a more affordable price than the 4x4 one. Take into consideration that under the ‘4x2 model’, rear-wheel drive is meant although usually if the SUV isn’t all-wheel drive, it’s front-wheel drive. The manufacturer decided to apply such a technology because it’s more likely to cope with sandy soil and steep surfaces.

It often happens that people underestimate the Daihatsu Terios. Judging by its appearance, it’s hard to imagine that this small SUV is capable of impressive off-road performance. The Terios is a vehicle that can take you really anywhere.

The Daihatsu Terios has been upgraded for the 2015 model year. Most changes relate to its appearance. The vehicle looks more attractive now. Also, the SUV has acquired a range of new interior features and a bunch of modernized technologies. As for its powertrain and safety system, they have remained mostly the same.

Once again, the appearance of the Daihatsu Terios has undergone the most significant changes. Its front now looks bolder while the rear end on the contrary looks more subtle.

The 2015 Daihatsu Terios gets a new grille segueing into the headlamps. It features three chrome blades. The bumper and side skirts of fenders contribute to the SUV’s aggressive look.

The lighting system of the new Daihatsu Terios includes projector halogen headlamps, which are among standard equipment now, and new LED daytime running lights with position lights among other things. The latter does its bit for making the SUV look refreshed and stylish.

A profile view of the 2015 Daihatsu Terios doesn’t show us anything new except for differently designed alloy wheels and a trapezoidal chrome element placed above the wheelarches on both sides.

At the rear, the Daihatsu Terios also features a newly designed bumper. By the way, the front and rear bumpers are similar. The tailgate opens sideways like doors in most cars. Unfortunately, the SUV doesn’t offer a rear-windshield defogger even as an option (such a tendency involves more and more vehicles) although it’s vital for good rear visibility, thus safety. There’s just a rear-windshield wiper for clear, unhindered view.

At the top of the Daihatsu Terios, there’s a new radio antenna. Also, a roof-mounted spoiler is renovated.

Regarding all this, it’s clear that the Japanese manufacturer has managed to significantly upgrade the model, at least its exterior look. It doesn’t resemble its precursor but projects confidence, reliability, and of course style. The rivals of the Daihatsu Terios have a reason for trembling.

Interior & Comfort

The new Daihatsu Terios has more luxurious interior in comparison with its predecessors.

An inner side of the doors is trimmed with fabric. The seats embellished with contrast red stitching are also wrapped in fabric with a new pattern applied. Leather upholstery isn’t available with the Daihatsu Terios regardless of a trim level you choose. The materials used in the SUV’s cabin are of not excellent but good quality.

There’s plenty of head and leg room front and back. The seats are comfortable and supportive. Those ones at the back tilt. So, if a journey is going to take a while, you can relax and take a nap there. All the seats offer headrests.

The dashboard is painted in Piano Black. It houses a new upgraded touchscreen with satellite navigation and Bluetooth functions. The steering wheel is also redesigned and contains audio controls mounted on it.

The boot in the Daihatsu Terios is rather big. A spare wheel hung on the tailgate makes space for you to keep additional luggage there. Note that a spare wheel is a full-sized alloy one. There’s also a cargo net that helps to keep the boot tidy and well arranged.

As for driving experience and consequently powertrain, the 2015 Daihatsu Terios cannot offer anything else but its old engine. The SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine mated to either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox. It produces 109 PS and 144 Nm. It would be great if a diesel version were in the range.

The Daihatsu Terios is equipped with dual airbags and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points. There’s also an anti-lock braking system but only on the range-topping models. Such advanced safety technologies as stability control and hill start assist for example are, unfortunately, unavailable.

The SUV’s security system is improved. Now, the Daihatsu Terios has an engine immobilizer and alarm.
