Ford Focus is widely regarded to be one of the most popular vehicles of the modern era. In fact, it is a top performer in the European market and one of the most saleable cars worldwide. For the 2016, the manufacturer has totally transformed the model. It received new exterior & interior accents. More details are included into a fresh Ford Focus review.
The 2016 Ford Focus is offered in three body styles: hatchback, sedan, and estate. The exterior boasts a more sportive look that combines relief contours, smooth lines, a sophisticated grille, and streamline taillights. The hood brags about new bi-xenon adaptive headlights which automatically adjust the light to the road conditions (using one out of four available modes, including cornering lighting).
The vehicle has been always well-known for ideal handling and the 2016 production year is not exclusion. Electric power steering ensures precise control of the road, while the implementation of a firm suspension provides for a nice weighing and passing ability of troublesome areas. Dynamism has been achieved thanks to the rising beltline, a lifted tail, front and rear bulging fenders, and an arching roofline.
Ford tried hard to please its fans with interior comfort. The effort was crowned with success. The cockpit is peculiar by driver-oriented fascia and controls. The front seats offer enough support and plenty of room even for taller passengers. The rear seats are limited in legroom, although can’t be called uncomfortable.
The Focus sedan holds 13.2 c.f. of cargo space, whereas its hatchback companion offers 23.8 c.f. of space with the backseats up and 44.8 c.f. with the seats down. Electric hatch initially comes with 14.5 c.f. boot that might be enlarged to 33.9 c.f.
Equipment is the other point of admiration in new Ford Focus. The model accommodates an advanced Ford SYNC 2 multimedia system with voice commands and an 8-inch touchscreen. It enables passenger-friendly managing of mobile devices, navigation, infotainment, and climate control options.
It should be noted that each 2016 Focus comes with a range of engines. According to Ford, the lineup offers ultimate performance, improved efficiency as well as low emissions index. Therefore, Ford Focus sedan features the following power- & drivetrain specs:
- 1.5-liter EcoBoost unit: 150 hp, 240 nm of torque, fuel consumption in combined mode – 6.7 liters, top speed – 210 km/h, 0-100 km/h distance – 9.3 seconds, front-wheel drive, 6-speed automatic transmission;
- 1.6-liter Ti-VCT unit: 105/125 hp, 150/159 nm of torque, fuel consumption in combined mode – 6.0/6.3 liters, top speed – 182/186/192/195 km/h, 0-100 km/h distance – 11.0-13.2 seconds, front-wheel drive, 5-speed manual/6-speed automatic transmission + PowerShift.
In its turn, Ford Focus hatchback comes with one 1.5-liter engine and a choice of 1.6-liter units, generating up to 150 horsepower, 240 nm of torque, 208 km/h maximal speed, and 9.2 seconds acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h distance. Estate versions are shipped with either a 1.5-liter EcoBoost motor (150 hp, 240 nm, 154 CO2 emissions rate, efficiency – 6.7 liters, top speed – 208 km/h, 0-100 km/h distance – 9.4 seconds) and four different 1.6-liter Ti-VCT engines with either 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic PowerShift transmission.
To continue with Ford Focus review, designers are happy to provide one more engine: a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit that produces 160 hp and 146 p-f of torque. The Focus Electric modification is furnished with a 107-kw electric motor & a 23 kWh battery (lithium-ion) that yields 143 hp. All power is directed to the front wheels via a single-speed direct drive gearbox.
Trims & Safety
For the 2016, the Focus is available in three trim levels: S, SE, and Titanium. The base models are packed with a kit of front/front-side airbags, a rearview camera, MyKey system, emergency crash notification, stability & traction monitoring.
