Hyundai Genesis Coupe
At the New York International Auto Show, Hyundai unveiled the production version of Genesis Coupe - the first rear-wheel drive coupe in the history of the brand. The novelty was constructed on the same platform as the Genesis Sport Sedan - a new flagship sedan of the company submitted previously. The concept model appeared in 2007, the presentation of the production car was held in March 2008. The modern technologies of gluing and welding of body parts and a completely new concept of a rear wheel drive construction were used in the model. This and more will be described in Hyundai Genesis Coupe Review.
The car is offered with two engines, both are petrol. A cheaper version has 2.0-liter “four” with a turbocharger capacity of 212 hp. The engine is equipped with variable valve timing, and has high torque of 295 Nm. The second engine - 6-cylinder 3.8 liter, with maximum 306 hp capacity and 357 Nm torque. With this engine the car reaches 100 km / h in less than 6 seconds. Technical features include a system of variable valve timing on the intake, variable geometry intake manifold, and relatively light engine block.
In the basic configuration all cars are equipped with 6-speed manual transmission. The four-cylinder engine can optionally be combined with 5-speed automatic transmission, and V6 is provided with a 6-step “automatic”. Both optional transmissions are equipped with manual mode Shifttronic.
SE version offers tougher and sports aimed suspension. Springs and dampers setting allow taking turns at high speed and keeping the control of the vehicle longer. The body was designed with security in mind and became very hard. Load distribution along the axes corresponds to the ratio of 55:45 front and rear. The brakes are different depending on the version. Four-piston calipers from Brembo are installed on the brake discs with a diameter of 13.4 inches (340 mm) in front and 13 inches (330 mm) at the rear in SE versions. All other models have 12.6-inch (320 mm) front and 12.4-inch (315 mm) rear ventilated discs with single-piston floating calipers.
Exterior and Equipment
According to the creators of the car, the task was to design a look at which aggression could be observed from any angle. The power and dynamism of the standard version is highlighted by the 18-inch wheels, which can be replaced with 19-inch. The Genesis Coupe options list includes all the modern benefits of the automotive world, ranging from leather upholstery, and ending with the navigation system and audio system with iPod connection.
In the basic configuration the vehicle is equipped with front and side airbags and inflatable curtains of safety. The body is designed with the presence of deformation zones, powerful side rails and bumpers, which buffer the blow at speeds up to 8 km / h without consequences. The car is sold in three trim levels: the base GS, the maximum GT (for the 3.8-liter engine), and sports-oriented SE (available with both engines).
