Hyundai i10

A-class models in recent years have become more popular, the number of cars in cities is growing and many motorists need small, but maneuvering vehicles. The development of a compact Hyundai hatchback is a bright example. Introduced in 2007 the model i10 has become much more popular than its predecessor Atos. In 2013 the baton was taken by the second generation Hyundai i10, which will be described in details in this Hyundai i10 Review.

The car uses a new platform, which is shared with the Kia Picanto. It grew up in several sizes: 80 mm was added to it length (up to 3665 mm) and 5 mm to wheelbase (2385 mm). The hatchback is wider by 65 mm (1660 mm) and lower by 50 mm (1500 mm), and therefore it is squatter in the front view. The weight is increased slightly, and now the basic version weighs 933 kg. The drag coefficient is reduced to 0.31, and body rigidity increased by 27%.


The design of Hyundai i10 became brighter and more attractive. It is dominated by smooth lines, reminiscent of sea waves. A narrow grille is combined with the wide trapezoidal front air intake. Teardrop headlamps are stretched on the wings and there are G-shaped LEDs on the bumper.

Wedge profile of the window line and rear roof pillars with a reverse angle adds violence and precipitance to the look. On the sills there is plastic lining. The panoramic rear window is covered with a pointed top spoiler. Along the edges of the body there are small lights. Rear bumper seems like a continuation of the wings.


Interior decoration materials are improved, and the plastic on the front panel and in the doors is diluted with bright inserts. Multi-function three-spoke steering wheel can be a place for keys of audio control, radio and cruise control. In the Premium modification it is sewed with leather as well as the lever of a gearbox. Among the instruments the central place is occupied by a large speedometer with the trip computer screen inside, to the left - tachometer, and to the right - fuel gauge pointers in the tank and engine temperature.

Large central panel is surrounded on the sides by two circular vents of the ventilation system. The keys of audio unit and the air conditioner are large and easy-to-use, they are clearly separated from each other. The glove compartment in i10 is roomy, as well as the pockets in the doors.

The steering column is adjustable only on the angle of tilt, but you can change the height of the driver's seat. Command driving position coupled with thin roof pillars provides a good visibility. Seats in i10 are soft and comfortable, although a little more of lateral support is desirable. The legroom on the first row was increased by 40 mm, and the interior is now wider in the area of shoulders. On the back there is enough space for people of average height. The trunk volume has grown in comparison to its predecessor; now it is 252 liters in the normal state and 1046 l with rear seats folded.

Hyundai i10 standard equipment includes: central locking, front electric windows, CD-player, six airbags and ESC stabilization system. But air conditioning is offered in the more expensive version of S Air. Flagship i10 Premium got the Bluetooth and 14-inch alloy wheels; among the options are: climate control, parking sensors, heated seats and steering wheel, a navigation system with voice control and cruise control with speed limiter.


The initial version is equipped with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine capacity of 65 hp. It has playful nature, but not always can cope with the loads. The reason for this is low torque (95 Nm), even though it is already available at 3500 rev / min. The acceleration to 100 km / h is achieved in 14.9 seconds. But it is quite economical - 6.0 l / 100 km in the urban cycle and 4.0 l / 100 km - in a country. And in the version Blue Drive the “appetite” is decreased to 5.1 and to 3.7 l / 100 km, respectively, due to engine stop technology.

You can also choose the 1.2-liter “four” with camshaft adjustment system CVVT capacity of 87 hp. It has a higher torque 120 Nm; however, it is achieved at 4000 rev / min. The dynamics is noticeably better: acceleration to 100 km / h takes 12.3 seconds, and top speed - 171 km / h. It should also be noted that the fuel consumption of the engine is not much greater than that of the base: 6.5 l / 100 km in a city and 4.1 l / 100 km - on the highway.

The standard 5-speed manual transmission is accurate; 4-step “automatic” is available as an option. Hyundai i10 chassis settings are designed for a comfortable drive. The suspension is soft, and therefore it smoothly absorbs most road irregularities. The car perfectly maneuvers, and the diameter of its turn is only 9.7 m. The extended wheel track improves cornering stability. Since the rear brakes are disc now, i10 slows more confidently. In addition, the sound insulation is improved and at speed of 100-130 km / h it is quieter inside of Hyundai i10 than of its predecessor.
