Hyundai i20 appeared in 2008 to replace the model Getz. During this time the company produced more than a million of these cars. The second-generation of Hyundai i20 was produced in 2015, and it will be the topic of discussion in Hyundai i20 Review. Over time, the range expanded with more dynamic three-door modification, and now there is another option - all-terrain Hyundai i20 Active.
Straight lines and facets dominate in the design of i20. A narrow grille is combined with slanting headlights and additional LED daylight. The bumper has noticeable wide trapezoidal air intake. The roof rails are installed to the trunk. The upper edge of the tailgate is crowned with a spoiler, and the width of the body is emphasized by curved lights. The model i20 Active is distinguishable, first of all, by the plastic protectors on the bumpers, sills and wheel arches. The ground clearance is increased by 20 mm up to 170 mm. Hyundai i20 Active is a rather big car, by the standards of the B-Class. Its length is 4065 mm, and the wheelbase - 2570 mm. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels.
Austere style dominates in the cabin of hatchback. The front panel is V-shaped, the trim abounds in silver inserts and lacquered surfaces. Three-spoke steering wheel is leather with nodules in the hand grip area. Instrument dials are decorated with silver rims. In the center there is a screen of the onboard computer.
The wide center console is turned slightly towards the driver. The switches of audio system and air conditioner unit are large and comfortable to use. For an extra charge you can choose a new 7-inch touch screen multimedia system, which is not offered in the standard i20. There is tilt-and-telescoping steering column and adjustable driver's seat. Interior space is at the same level with higher class models. The legroom in the second row is enough, the trunk volume is also decent - 326 liters in the normal state, and with the rear seats folded it is increased to 1042 liters.
The range of engines in i20 Active is slightly different from the standard model. The only available petrol engine is 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged motor. It is offered in two versions - 100 and 120hp. Maximum torque of 172 Nm is available at 1500-4000 rev / min. More powerful i20 Active is capable of accelerating to 100 km / h in 10.4 sec and its maximum speed is 183 km / h. In the urban cycle, it consumes 6.2 l / 100 km, and in the country - 4.5 l / 100 km. By the way, this version is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the other versions are 5-speed.
Turbodiesel 1.4-liter produces 90 hp and its advantage is excellent traction at low speeds. The peak 240 Nm of torque is already available at 1500 rev / min. But this engine is quite noisy, and vibrations are felt sometimes. Acceleration to 100 km / h takes 12.3 seconds, and top speed is 170 km / h. In addition, this hatchback is more economical - 5.3 l / 100 km in town and 3.8 l / 100 km - on the highway.
Increased ground clearance didn’t worsen the handling of i20 Active, since the suspension spring were reconfigured and became more stringent. However, as a result, the drive comfort has deteriorated, and it became tougher. The car is easy to maneuver in city traffic. The diameter of its turn is 10.2 m. The hatchback has pretty good road adherence. The sound insulation is very high quality, by the standards of the B-class. The cost of Hyundai i20 Active all-terrain hatchback starts at 17 thousand Euro.
