In ten years, Hyundai Coupe has proven to be a popular and affordable sports model. But the years roll by and the time for its successor has come, and two models at once came to replace the Coupe. First was Hyundai Genesis Coupe, introduced in 2008, and three years later appeared more compact Veloster. It is positioned as an affordable youth car with the original style, and it will be described in Hyundai Veloster Review.
A peculiar zest of Hyundai Veloster is its door, in fact this is a four-door coupe – there is one door on the driver's side and two - on the passenger’s side. This solution facilitates the access to the second row passengers. However, it does not spoil the design of the car: the door is skillfully camouflaged, and its handle is hidden, so when viewed from a distance it is not easy to notice. Veloster is a real athlete, it is presented with tightened forms, short body overhangs, updated wheel arches and profiled sidewall. The style of the front part is very expressive thanks to the huge headlamps stretched on the wings. The panoramic roof is continued in the rear window, which certainly makes the interior brighter. The tailgate is two-section and has an original sharp bend. This item allows improving visibility, and visually lifts the hull back up. The coupe uses the platform of the new Hyundai Accent sedan and has similar dimensions. Its length is 4219 mm, wheelbase 2650 mm, width 1791 mm, and height - 1400 mm. The car in the base version weighs only 1172 kg.
The stylish interior is well matched with the exterior design. It is dominated by smooth lines. The instrument cluster is made in the motorcycle style - with dials of the speedometer and tachometer in some deep trenches. Even in the base version the central place is occupied by the color touch screen multimedia system with a diagonal of 7 inches. The front seats have good lateral support, and their adjustment range is very large.
The most affordable modification is equipped with air conditioning, central locking, electric windows, USB-port, radio with CD-player and 8-speaker output of 196 watts. The configuration also includes: 6 airbags, anti-lock braking system ABS and ESP stabilization system. For a surcharge, you can select the climate control, 450-watt audio system with CD-changer, a navigation system with voice control, and the function of a distress signal in an accident or malfunction. Interesting technology Eco Coach transforms fuel economy in an exciting game – the driver gets points in “proper” drive.
Hyundai Veloster engine is 1.6-liter petrol “four” with direct fuel injection and adjustment system of variable valve timing. Its power is not too large (138 hp), but it has a cheerful nature and it quickly rotates. The latter can be very useful, because at high speed the motor behaves much more interesting. The maximum torque is not too big - 167 Nm at 4850 r / min. With a 6-speed “mechanics” coupe accelerates to 100 km / h in 9.8 seconds, and its top speed - 198 km / h. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is just 6.2 liters / 100 km; with the optional ISG technology it is even less - 5.6 l / 100 km. The latest development 6-speed transmission with two clutches improves the dynamics of Hyundai Veloster.
The lever of mechanical gearbox is accurate in shifting, and the clutch pedal is very easy. Platform by Accent implies McPherson front suspension and semi-dependent rear. Of course, the fans of sporty driving would like to set a multi-link rear suspension, but the Veloster shows a very good handling anyways. In urban areas the car puts up a good performance thanks to its compact dimensions and a relatively small diameter of turning - 10,4 m.
