Kia Carnival

Since 1998, the Kia model range offers a full-size minivan Carnival. In some countries it is known as Sedona. These days, such models are no longer as popular as before, because their competitors became larger seven-seat SUVs and more compact minivans. However, the Kia still decided to continue the development of the line and prepared a new Carnival of the third generation which will be described in Kia Carnival Review.

Exterior

A new mini-van is based on a completely new platform. From now on there won’t be long and short versions. Carnival will be offered in one embodiment: length 5115 mm and wheelbase of 3060 mm. It is a bit longer than its precursor, although the distance between the axles has increased. The width remains the same (1985 mm), but the height is reduced to 1740 mm. It weighs 2138 kg.

The car design has become more elegant: there are less of angles and more of flowing forms. Branded wide grille is decorated with chrome, in the front bumper the air intake is bigger, slanted headlights stretch to the wings and they are complemented by curved LED fluorescent lamps. The tilt of the windshield angle is increased. As before, the rear doors are sliding. Window frames are underlined with chrome lining.

Interior

The materials of interior decoration are better than in its predecessor. In the most expensive version of SX Limited the leather is combined with black lacquered inserts. Three-spoke steering wheel is slightly smaller in size than in its predecessor. It has control buttons for the phone, cruise control and audio system. The dials of the speedometer and tachometer are placed in separate wells with silver rims and they are divided with a screen of on-board computer. The wide center panel is tilted. On the top there is an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system UVO. The switches of audio and climate control are clearly separated from each other; they are large therefore are comfortable to the touch during the use. Carnival has two glove boxes, one of which is equipped with a cooling function.

Comfort

The steering column is adjustable in height and depth. The seats in a minivan are slightly higher than before, which has contributed to improving the visibility forward and to the sides. The first row of seats is soft and comfortable, and provides good lateral support. The armrest with roomy box inside is mounted on the wide transmission tunnel. The buyer can choose the format of the second row: three-seater bench or two individual seats with foot rest. In both cases, the horizontal adjustment is provided. Legroom has increased, and the interior is wider in the shoulder area. Triple third row is more suitable for children or adults of small stature, though it is larger than before. The trunk volume is rather big: 960 liters in five-seat configuration. The fifth door can be equipped with motorized touch opening (the system is activated, if you approach the car from the back with the keys in your pocket and wait a few seconds).

Of course, the main principle of the car of this class is comfort. The soft suspension of minivan easily copes with most road irregularities. At the same time the body roll in cornering is surprisingly little. In the basic version the power-assisted steering is hydraulic, and in the more expensive versions - electric. All versions of the wheel are quite easy to manage, but if you select the Sport mode, it is filled with a bit of weight. The sound insulation is improved, so at high speeds it is noticeably quieter in the cabin.

Technical Equipment

The basic version of LX got electric windows and mirrors, air conditioning, 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, the CD-player, Bluetooth connectivity and parking sensors. Also there are 6 airbags, stabilization systems and tire pressure monitoring. The most expensive version of the SX Limited has additional keyless access system, three-zone air conditioning, electric front seats, heated seats of first and second rows, a sunroof and a rear-view camera. Among the optional equipment there are: rain sensor, a DVD-player with a screen for rear passengers, adaptive cruise control with auto deceleration system, monitoring technology of “blind” zones and lane keeping assist.

Powertrain

Carnival is equipped with only one engine - a 3.3-liter petrol V6 with direct fuel injection and system of variable valve timing adjustment. It develops 276 hp at 6000 rev / min. Maximum 335 Nm of torque is available at just 5200 r / min. It works without vibration, and acceleration to 100 km / h takes 7.5 seconds. A top speed is limited to around 185 km / h.

Automatic 6-speed transmission is switched smoothly. In the urban cycle the fuel consumption amounts 13.1 l / 100 km, and in the country - 9.4 l / 100 km.
