A-Class cars are the typical city dwellers. They are very compact and as a rule their length does not exceed 3.5 - 3.7 m. It allows the driver to confidently maneuver on a busy street and park in the small spaces. Not to mention their efficiency and democratic price - these qualities are also appreciated in our days. Over time, cars have made good progress – they have become better and more richly equipped. In Europe super compact models are common, and therefore in recent years the car market hosted several new members of the A-Class; among them - Chevrolet Spark, Kia Picanto and Peugeot 107. In Kia Picanto Review we are going to talk about one of them and to compare it with others.
Kia Picanto of a second generation was introduced in 2011. It is available in the five-door and three-door versions. The car looks quite attractive. Compact hatchback attracts attention thanks to a stylish contoured sides and rather big trapezoidal air intake in the bumper. Chrome grille is framed in the style of modern Kia models, and it is combined with the large slanting headlights. The upper edge of the fifth door is decorated with a neat spoiler.
Kia Picanto has perhaps the highest quality trim materials compared to its competitors. Black plastic is diluted with white inserts, double-spoke steering wheel is originally performed, the lower part of which imitates Kia grille. The instrument cluster is “triplex”, that is, the dials are located in three separate wells. The central panel is turned slightly towards the driver and its keys are easy to understand. The steering column changes only height, but you can also adjust the height and the driver's seat. The seats are comfortable and provide with good lateral support. The visibility is very good thanks to the thin roof pillars. Kia has significant space on the second row, which can accommodate passengers even taller than 180cm. The trunk of Picanto is the most spacious - 200 liters, against 170 liters at Spark and just 139 liters in Peugeot 107. If you fold the rear seats, the volume increases to 918, 994 and 751 liters, respectively. Kia Picanto 1,2 Base is equipped with 2 airbags, central locking, immobilizer, front electric window raiser, air conditioning.
All three models have petrol engines. Picanto is available with the 1.2-liter 85-horsepower four-cylinder engine, although in Europe there is a 1.0-liter version. It is not only the most powerful, but has better traction than the competitors - 120 Nm at 4000 rev / min. This provides a very good dynamics - 11.4 seconds to 100 km / h and maximum 171 km / h. It should also be noted that the “four” is quieter and smoother than its rivals’ engines. The “appetite” of Kia is small: in city it consumes 5.8 l / 100 km, while on the highway - 3.8 l / 100 km. Manual 5-speed transmission is characterized by clarity of work, and the clutch pedal is pretty easy.
Kia is the most interesting in drive compared to its competitors. Its steering is moderately sharp, although not always the position of the wheels is clear. It becomes much easier at low speeds. Hatchback has the smallest roll of the body in the turns, but it has most rigid suspension of these three. The car shows a very good road grip and good directional stability.
