Maybach is a German ultra-luxury car manufacturer, headquartered in Stuttgart, which is owned by Daimler AG and is a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz. Today, the cars are turned out under Mercedes-Maybach marque.
Wilhelm Maybach and Gottlieb Daimler started together. In 1885, they managed to improve a four-stroke internal combustion engine, invented by Nicolaus Otto, and attach it to a bicycle first and then to a carriage. As a result, they created a motorcycle and automobile. When Daimler established the Daimler Motorengesellschaft (the Daimler Motor Company) in 1890, he employed Maybach as a chief engineer. Wilhelm Maybach constructed the first Mercedes auto in 1900.
Later, in 1907, he left the company to design and build cars with his son Karl. In 1921, they produced their first auto, the Maybach Type W3. Since then, sophisticated cars with the double M logo became known as luxurious, expensive vehicles. Apart from manufacturing elegant cars, Maybach continued to produce diesel engines for trains, airplanes, and vessels.
During the WWII, the civilian automobile production under Maybach marque was halted. Instead, the manufacturer made engines for Panther and Tiger tanks, which were in the service of Nazi Germany. However, unlike most automakers that resumed their production after the war, Maybach had been done with a car industry until it became a part of Daimler-Benz in 1960.In 2000s, Daimler-Benz began to make cars under Maybach brand - the Maybach 57 and the Maybach 62 were delivered.
Even being amalgamated with Daimler-Benz, Maybach is associated with exclusivity, high position, and opulence. Maybach cars are truly unique. Each car is assembled manually following a client’s requests and suggestions. That’s why the price for such a car is six figure. A client can choose from a range of luxurious extras, which can be added optionally to the interior: entertainment centres, voice-activated controls, sheep wool carpets, perfume-atomizing systems, etc.

After more than 70 years, in 2002, the Maybach name decorated two new – as always luxurious - models – the Maybach 57 and its sibling, the Maybach 62 (the numbers signify the cars’ length in feet) at the price of nearly €400,000 and €600,000 correspondingly. The Maybach 57 is equipped with a 12-cylinder 5.5-litre 550 horsepower engine with turbo-supercharging; the car accelerates to 250 km/h. In 2010, the updated S-versions for both models were produced – the Maybach 57S and 62S. Their engines are more powerful (630 hp); they have new front bumpers, LED head-lights, new radiator grill, and cosmetic changes.
