Mazda Miata

In 1988, the public has witnessed the presentation of a concept car Miata, and a year later a serial Mazda MX-5 made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show (in some countries it was sold under the name Miata). Interestingly, originally the manufacturers planned to present a coupe along with a cabriolet, but then this idea was abandoned, and they just offered a removable hardtop for additional fee. Elegant car immediately caught the attention of motorists and active drivers who appreciated the refined driving. All its features you can find in Mazda Miata Review.

Powertrain and Drive

Initially the car was assembled with 1.6-liter “four” capacity of 115 hp. With the 5-speed manual gearbox the acceleration to 100 km / h took 8.8 seconds, while the top speed was 188 km / h. Standard equipment included power steering and air conditioning, and among the options were an automatic transmission, airbags and anti-lock braking system ABS.

An important advantage of the Mazda MX-5 was its low price - $ 13 800. Therefore, in just four months the company managed to sell more than 23 thousand units, and for the year 1990 - 95 thousands. Soon the model line was added with a version offering 1.8-liter 131-horsepower engine capable to reach 200 km / h. Over time, there were sports lightweight modifications.

Modifications and Generations

Mazda MX-5 of the first generation has been in production for over a decade and at that time almost 400 thousand vehicles left the assembly line. In 1998, the world saw a completely new MX-5. It became wider and a little heavier, and there were no more retractable headlights. The engines were the same, but the power of the 1.8-liter four-cylinder has grown to 140 hp. For the first time the developers offered a 6-speed manual transmission. The limited modification of the Mazda Speed with 180 hp turbo engine was available additionally. It accelerated to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds and reached 203 km / h. Though the MX-5 became more expensive, nevertheless until 2005 they managed to manufacture 300 thousand copies.

The third generation model was slightly larger, but it did not put on weight. The design was solid, and along with the usual modification for the first time the manufacturer offered Roadster-Coupe version with a folding metal roof. The capacity of 1.8-liter engine was reduced to 126 hp, but there appeared a new 2.0-liter 160-hp engine. This MX-5 reaches 100 km / h in 7.1 seconds, and its top speed is 210 km / h. The list of options was expanded: xenon headlights, climate control and heated seats. In addition, there are more opportunities to personalize the car. In 2008, the car was updated with increased grille and new slanting headlights.

Sales Rate and Price

For more than 25 years, the company released almost a million of Mazda MX-5 cars, which is an excellent indicator for the Sport model. Interestingly, about 100 thousand of convertibles were purchased by Britons who know a lot about these cars. On the anniversary the company released the fourth generation cabriolet: it is lighter, more powerful and more economical, but still retains all the classic features of the model. In the history of Mazda MX-5 opens a new stage.

The starting price of the new model Mazda MX-5 Miata starts at $ 25,735, which is $ 1 125 more expensive than a model of 2014. It is noted that the amount of $ 820 US from total price accounts the cost of shipping. Mazda Miata is completely rebuilt and uses new chassis and light suspension.

Miata is a rival to such model as Fiat Spider, but more interesting competitor for a beginner would be a two-seater roadster Mini Superleggera. Mazda Miata is offered in three versions: Sport, Club and Grand Touring. Compared with the option Sport, Club has a more aggressive upgrade. But the top Grand Touring version received additional comfort.
