There is hardly a manufacturer that wouldn’t have a specific vehicle in its portfolio. Opel is not an exception in this matter. Its latest Adam town car boggles the mind not only by a striking bodywork, but also by a promising performance combined with a well of advanced facilities. Wanna know more about the model? Take your time to look through Opel Adam review.
The most outstanding peculiarity that differentiates Adam from other small-sized hatchbacks is a color of the rooftop which stands in contrast with the rest of the chassis. Optionally, the customer might order a modification with a glass top. Featuring 3.70x1.72 m dimensions and 2311 mm wheelbase, this 3-door model is on firm ground in tough city conditions.
The vehicle is based on a shortened Corsa E platform with an enforced subframe and dual strut mounts which increase structural rigidity. In order to compensate for the shortening, Opel has implemented some upgrades: enforcement of the rear axle, lowering of the gravity center, modernization of the front suspension, optimization of the rebound check, changing of the steering gear algorithm, etc.
The chassis is distinguished by a low trapezoidal grille, a chrome-plated molding, round turn indicators, a short hood, relief rear bodywork, prominent taillights, and a sensor panel for a trouble-free management of the trunk door. The headlights/taillights come equipped with LEDs which improve overall field of view.
Opel Adam’s interior is all about comfort and aesthetic pleasure. The fascia boasts two-color design, resonating with the finish and seats upholstery. The doors’ coating (cloth or vinyl) features soundproof foam material that restricts noise from the outside. Round dials with chrome-plated moldings and red LED backlight on the cockpit add some sports aura to the cabin.
The integrated seats are called to take care of the occupants’ backs. Their framework consists of foam material which boosts usability and reliability during the ride. Besides, the front seats are heated when necessary (as well as a steering wheel). The floor is the other ornament of the model; it is furnished with a multi-color lighting system that changes its intensity depending on the time of day.
To proceed with Opel Adam review, it’s necessary to say that initially the vehicle was equipped with three 4-cylinder engines from Small Gas Engine (ecoFlex) family. The base 1.2-liter engine performs at 70 horsepower, while its 1.4-liter counterpart is available in 87 or 100 horsepower versions. The triple is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission and Start/Stop system.
The latest replenishment to the powertrain line took place in early 2015. It was a 1.4-liter (87 hp) engine with a 5-speed automatic transmission that joined the ranks. Vehicles with the following underhood are thought to consume 4.7 liters per 100 km. Moreover, Opel introduced a power-efficient 1.0-liter engine (3-cylinder) that consumes only 3.5l/100 km.
Despite visibly gentle bodywork, new Adam is packed with innovative safety facilities. It offers three airbag systems (front, side and rear) as well as dual belt pretensioners on the front seats. In addition, the car accommodates Blind Area assist that permanently monitors blind zones on both sides of the chassis, and Advanced Park Assist II with Park Pilot options.
Opel’s outstanding town car is all about innovative infotainment technologies. Thus, it boasts IntelliLink multimedia system with a 7-inch touchscreen display that allows for the connection of Android-/iOS-based smartphones as well as cell phones. An enhanced audio system with Siri Eyes Free assistant provides for the connection of various audio resources via USB or Bluetooth interfaces. IntelliLink is compatible with Stitcher application useful for the activation of Internet radio or BringGo Navigation system (3D maps, voice prompts).
Opel Adam is available in 3 trims: JAM, GLAM & SLAM. Each level has an additional Extreme package with 17/18-inch wheels and dedicated tuning. The JAM is differentiated by: leather steering wheel, front power windows, remote key control, power mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, ABS system, cruise control, air conditioner, CD 3.0 BT audio, and City mode.
The GLAM version features: climate control system, 7-speaker audio, panoramic glass rooftop, LED daylights, adjustable cup holder, Chrome package, various saloon color designs. Finally, the SLAM boasts the availability of: sports chassis, electronic climate control, rear LED taillights, chrome-plated window moldings, aluminum coating of door sills, and 17-inch Hurricane wheels.
