Muscle cars have been always attracting devotees of speed and performance. The Firebird, designed by one of the most renowned GM’s divisions, is undoubtedly an iconic vehicle. Throughout a prominent 35-years’ history it has undergone several major and dozens of minor updates. Still, Pontiac’s key features remained unchanged. What kind of legacy did this muscle car leave for the market? Let’s review Pontiac Firebird of the latest generation (1993-2002).

Key Updates

The Firebird of the 4th generation has outlived several vital updates which affected bodywork, interior and underhood. The major improvement, as distinct from the previous model years, was made in the styling. It has been given more aerodynamic features. Pontiac decided in favor of preserving the retractable headlamps which were the most recognizable zests of the model.

The latest Pontiac Firebird was available in two body versions: coupe & convertible. Powertrain Variations

- 5.7-liter V8, rated 5665 cm3 and 329 horsepower.

Firebird Special Editions

The model was so popular among muscle car and racing fans that the manufacturer had no other option than introducing several Firebird’s modifications. The first edition, the Firehawk, was designed by SLP Engineering, Inc. The car featured 17-inch wheels, a twin-inlet hood and an air cleaner box. It could demonstrate 300 horsepower & 445 nm of torque (in 2001 the powertrain was substituted by a more powerful solution with 330 horsepower). The Firehawk came in Formula and Trans AM trims.

The Trans Am GT edition offered T-top & hardtop body styles, manual or automatic transmissions, 155-mph speedometer, T43 spoiler. The 25th-anniversary Trans Am version came with 16-inch alloy wheels, leather seats and purely white paintwork. The 30th-anniversary Trans Am Firebird was offered in WS6 convertible as well as WS6 T-top coupe body versions; both boasted 17-inch alloy wheels, leather seats and door finish.

Finally, the 2002 Collector’s Edition Trans Am came in two body styles too with yellow paintwork, two black stripes from the hood to the tail, 17-inch alloy wheels & black-painted body details.
