In recent years, the Spanish company SEAT has evolved considerably while being under the wing of the Volkswagen Group. The result of this “growth” is the first in the history middle-class sedan. Earlier the lineup included only compact models and mini-vans. Despite this, in record time SEAT was able to create a sedan Exeo. The secret is simple: they were helped by Audi Company. Exeo is seriously redesigned Audi A4 of the generation B7. A4 assembly line was simply dismantled and transported from Germany to Spain. Most of the body parts were left unchanged: the doors, the roof and the glass were inherited from the A4. Therefore, on the side sedan profile is recognizable: short overhangs, the arched roof line, long hood and a small trunk. But the bonnet and wings are completely new. Modified front and back part make it possible to clearly identify SEAT novelty. Partly trapezoidal grille and elongated headlights resemble the new generation hatchback Ibiza. The bumper has got a wide air intake, there are also new mirrors. SEAT stylists have developed a new trunk lid and taillights resemble proprietary optics of minivan Altea XL. Between them there is a large chrome logo of the brand. The basic configuration offers 16-inch wheels, but in the version Sport there are 17-inch wheels, and 19-inch are in the options list.
The car interior was also worked through together with Audi; however it is based not on the A4 sedan but on the convertible. In particular, this model has become a donor of the center console. Elegant dashboard smoothly envelops the door panels, its finish is two colored. The Sport version provides aluminum inserts, and in the case with the leather interior the polished metal is replaced with wood. The large dials of the speedometer and tachometer are located in separate wells, and there is a screen of the onboard computer between them. Interior lighting is bright red, which highlights the dynamism of the Exeo.
Glove box has a function of cooling; moreover, the reduced temperature is maintained for some time, even when the ignition is off. Between the front seats there is an armrest with compartment for small luggage, and a port connecting MP3 player and 12-volt outlet. Modification Sport offers the installation of sports seats, which hold the back even better. Cargo capacity is considerable and amounts 460 liters, which is increased with rear seats folded.
Basic Exeo Reference is pretty well equipped: there is central locking, dual-zone climate control, trip computer, electric windows and all rear-view mirrors, radio with CD-player and 4 speakers. Also there are anti-lock ABS brakes, ESP stabilization system and six airbags. The Stylance version adds automatic headlights, rain sensor, cruise control, parking sensors, and tire-pressure monitoring system. Among the options - leather and Alcantara trim, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, and three additional airbags. You can select a multimedia system including a 6.5-inch color display, a DVD-navigation, a slot for SD memory cards, the USB-port and Bluetooth.
Initially, the Exeo was offered with five engines. The most affordable is the 1.6-liter petrol engine capacity of 102 hp. It is sensitive to loads, as the sedan is quite heavy, but in the city the motor ensures the car’s quite decent dynamics. Higher in the hierarchy are two TFSI turbo engines with direct fuel injection - 1.8-liter 150-horsepower and 2.0-liter 200-hp. A more powerful engine has a cheerful character and demonstrates the traction not worse than the turbo. The maximum torque of 280 Nm is achieved at 1800 rev / min. It is available in a wide range of speed (5000 rev / min), that provides uniform dispersal. Acceleration to 100 km / h takes 7.3 seconds, and top speed reaches 240 km / h. At the same time fuel consumption is even slightly smaller than with 1.6-liter engine - 11.0 l / 100 km in the urban cycle and 5.8 l / 100 km - in a country.
Both turbodiesels (2.0-liter) are equipped with direct fuel injection and a diesel particulate filter. A weaker motor develops 141 hp, and the second - 170 hp. The later is characterized by high-torque, because 350 Nm of torque is achieved at 1750 r / min. Best of all, it feels in the range of 2000-3000 rev / min. At high revs the engine is somewhat noisy, but when driving on the track it's almost unheard. The dynamics is very good - 8.4 seconds to 100 km / h. In the city the sedan consumes 7.9 l / 100 km, while on the road - 4.6 l / 100 km.
A new power steering is more sharp and accurate, the sedan feels not bad on winding roads. Light understeer is only felt at high speeds. The suspension is set for dynamic driving, and it gradually absorbs the bumps. In the Sport modification the springs are tougher, but the body roll is smaller.
