The anticipation for the 3rd generation of Superb is over! The vehicle is already on the market with a bunch of improvements & unique gimmicks. Wanna know what kind of surprises an outstanding Czech manufacturer offers? Have a look at the latest Skoda Superb review.
If compared with the model of the 2nd generation, new Superb 2015 is longer, wider, higher but a bit lighter (up to 75 kg). Its overall dimensions make up 4858x1870x1468 mm. The wheelbase has been also increased to 2851 mm (+90 mm). The implementation of lightweight materials in the construction of chassis added to the reduction of overall weight. The ratio of steel in the bodywork has been cut to 50%; at the same time, body stiffness has risen by 10%.
The liftback is developed on MQB-B platform, boasting stylish head optics, LED taillights, a flowing rooftop, McPherson in combination with multilink suspension (base trim), an enlarged clearance that serves for a better flotation. Depending on the trim, standard suspension might be substituted by active suspension with adaptive struts & hydromount.
The most dramatic change that took place in new Skoda Superb 2015-2016 is the substitute of the double trunk cover (which proved to be unclaimed) by a standard door. The latter is equipped with electric drive and auto opening, when there is a key nearby.
The other peculiarity is roominess. It is really mind-boggling: the volume of the trunk has been enlarged to 625 liters (up to 1760 liters with the backrests folded), the cabin is longer by 39 and 69 mm in the front and rear sections respectively. The leg- and headroom is record-breaking for its class. It is claimed that the legroom for the rear passengers makes up 157 mm – twice as much as D+ sedans have.
The fascia and dashboard have been also revised. The manufacturer has added a bunch of keys to make the driving process more comfortable, including power hand-operated brake button. The saloon comes equipped with diode lighting in multiple configuration options. Additional comfort (at extra cost, of course) is provided by the heating of backseats, sun-screening curtains, climate-control for rear occupants, electronic fascia with 12.3-inch display, information windshield projector, and a multi-functional holder for tablets.
The layout is available in four finish coatings. The infotainment system, depending on the trim, features 6.5-inch display, LTE Internet connection spot, and the support for Android Auto & Apple CarPlay applications.
To make the Skoda Superb Review comprehensive, it’s necessary to mention the range of powertrain configurations. The company has included 8 different engines into the model line: 5 gasoline TSI and 3 diesel TDI, ranging from 120 to 280 horsepower (all correspond to Euro 6 standard). All powertrains are 4-cylinder turbocharged engines with direct or combined fuel injection. The power package is replenished by either front-wheel or full-wheel drive and 6/7-speed manual or automatic DSG transmission.
Skoda Superb 2015 is packed with safety technologies. It houses 7/9 airbags, lane assist option, blind area monitoring assist, tire pressure monitoring, road signs scanner, emergency braking after accident, parking assist, and adaptive lighting. Besides, the model boasts the integration of driver fatigue recognition system and intellectual cruise-control. The latter resembles autopilot that runs the car nearly on a standalone basis.
A new Superb is introduced in four trim levels: S, SE, SE-L and Lauren & Klement. Depending on this, the model comes equipped with the following facilities:
- Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with Eco mode that reduces fuel consumption and emissions;
- Normal, Comfort, Individual, Sport driving modes;
- 220 V socket and USB-port for charge-in of all connected gadgets;
