SsangYong Korando

Present-day customers have become rather exacting towards crossovers. The latter should be an ideal balance between performance, off-road capabilities, efficiency, and size. SsangYong tried to consider the trend by launching an updated Korando. Standing in direct competition with Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai, the model offers a variety of boons which are clearly described in SsangYong Korando review. Never miss a chance to discover those privileges.

Styling Basics

The latest Korando combines a totally refurbished exterior with improved interior features. The front-end received new bumper, honeycomb grille, air inlets, and head optics with LED clusters. The back-end obtained LED taillights and a more refined bumper. The wheelarches are protruded from the chassis.

Interior layout has also been refreshed. Instead of a Spartan-style dashboard, South Korean manufacturers have integrated a niftier fascia with wood-like trimming. The upholstery is made of high-quality cloth. Naysayers decry the lack of sound-dampening materials used in the cabin’s trimming. Hence, when accelerating, the passengers might intercept noise from the outside.

The base trim is bundled with 6 speakers, AUX & USB ports as well as a colored multimedia system managed by Android OS; the latter provides for the connection of external peripherals by means of Bluetooth among other things. The other facilities integrated within the cabin include large storage bins and several adjustments for the steering wheel. Optionally, it’s possible to embed heating and ventilations for the front seats, cruise control, heating of steering wheel, engine start via a button, tire pressure monitoring system, etc.

Drivetrain Specification

It’s impossible to review SsangYong Korando without mentioning the choice of drivetrains. This crossover is available in two versions: with a front-wheel and a full-wheel drive. The full-wheel drive modifications are furnished with an inter-wheel blocking & electromagnetic clutch in the rear. On standard driving mode the clutch automatically enables the rear wheels; however, when the speed does not go beyond 40 km/h, the driver can easily block it.

The quite solid chassis boasts an optimal clearance index – 180 mm – that ensures good cross-country capabilities. The lineup of powertrains involves a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel item. The first one is able to produce 149 horsepower at 3500 RPM & 197 nm of torque at 4000 RPM. The second one offers a more powerful hp & torque index – 175 horsepower, 360 nm at 2500 RPM. Both versions are paired either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

SsangYong Korando is shipped in several trim levels. The base trim features 16-inch alloy wheels, 6 airbags, electronic stability control, road assistance package as well as a 5-year’s limited warranty, estimated for 100 thousand km.

The Korando SX trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, auto headlights, heated front seats, front fog-lamps, auto-folding external mirrors, scuff plates, chrome-plated door handles, tinted windows, and partly leather-wrapped seats.
