Toyota Fortuner appeared in 2005 as a coupe, built on a pickup platform Hilux. It has been produced in eight countries, and earned a reputation of a reliable and affordable offroad conqueror. A new Toyota Hilux was presented recently and now it's time for the second-generation Fortuner, which is going to be described in Toyota Fortuner Review.
After the restyling the Toyota Fortuner looks fresh and very modern. However, if you look at the details, the age of the car becomes obvious. The head optics, even in the most expensive version, is halogen, there are no daytime running lights, no Parktronic (although there is a rear-view camera) or keyless access. On the other hand, what would be the price of all these options? SUV length grew by 90 mm (to 4795 mm) with an unchanged wheelbase 2750 mm. Fortuner became wider (1855 mm) and lower (1835 mm) than its predecessor. Its design has become more expressive and even acquired features characteristic of Lexus. Chrome trapezoidal grille is combined with slanted headlights. Standard wheels are 17-inch.
In the cabin reigns usual analog spirit: large buttons, levers sticking out of the central tunnel, unpretentious and simple plastic devices. Toyota Fortuner trim materials are improved, the dials of the instrument panel have optitron backlight, and the screen of an on-board computer is now colored. In the central panel there is a touch screen of multimedia system. As previously the car is offered in versions of five and seven seats. Seven-seat cabin is an advantage for big families. The adults may easily sit in the third row, however no for a long time. Long journey for seven passengers is hardly possible, but the presence of two additional seats is always good for a short ride.
The basic list of equipment in the SUV is expanded and now it includes air conditioning, a rearview camera, a cooled glovebox, 7 airbags, and stabilization system. The most expensive version also includes leather upholstery, climate control, keyless entry system, electric tailgate and cruise control.
Ease of petrol motor, time-tested assemblies, durable suspension and the lack of electronic systems - a pledge of reliability and a powerful argument. At bad roads Fortuner is able to drive confidently and be at the same time, surprisingly, quite comfortable. Four-wheel drive constantly pulls the car forward, and allows turning a blind eye to the big fuel consumption.
Fortuner has got a new 2.8-liter turbodiesel with capacity of 177 hp and the maximum torque of 450 Nm. The car consumes an average of 8.0 l / 100 km and is able to tow a three-ton trailer. On the choice there are 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. All-wheel drive is complemented by a lower gear, as well as the rear and interaxle lockable differentials. In addition, the off-road vehicle has a help system on a steep slope, and its ground clearance is 225 mm. The new multi-link rear suspension is designed to increase the comfort of the drive.
Toyota Fortuner of second generation appeared in the market in October with a price of about 30 thousand dollars.
