The eighth generation of pickup Toyota Hilux was presented in May 2015 in Australia and Bangkok. Generation change affected not only on the exterior of the car, but also the technical component. Increased stiffness of the frame allowed increasing capacity, springs and shock absorbers, along with independent front suspension give the car improved handling. This and more will be described in Toyota Hilux Review.
Eighth generation Hilux is staffed with new, quieter and fuel efficient engines (turbodiesels Series G D 2.4 and 2.8 were replaced by KD 2.5 and 3.0). Power gain is small and is only 6 “horses” in contrast to the torque, which increased by 57 and 90 nm respectively. Engine 2.4 is now combined with a six-speed “mechanics”, 2.8 - with six stepped automatic.
Introduced in 2005 and survived two restylings, Hilux is offered with two engines, both diesel. The car gets two-liter petrol 1TR-FE with capacity of 114 hp. In the same series of motors designed for light commercial and off-road vehicles, there is 2TR-FE 2.7 liter and capacity of about 160 hp. There is petrol V6 - four-liter 1GR-FE, developing 228-236 hp. The same “six” in the version of the TRD supercharger is offered in Australia and has drive power of 306 “horses”.
Exterior and Interior
The length of the pick-up has increased by 70 mm, width - 95, height is reduced by 35 mm, and the ground clearance is 227 mm. The wheelbase remains the same. Exterior has undergone significant changes, starting from the head optics and up to smoother contour of arches. The narrow headlights with LED strips reach the grille finished with chrome. The new form of lights can be noticed behind together with chrome trim on the bumper.
The interior has changed more: the Japanese have paid more attention to the quality of finishing and ergonomics. Now this is a real salon, and not just a cabin of pickup, arranged according to the principle “nothing extra”.
Already in the basic version “Standard” the car is equipped with turn signal located in the rear-view mirrors, air bags (side and curtain), mirrors in sunshields, light sensor, as well as enhanced security system - ABS, EBD, BAS and ESP.
Masthead “Prestige” is equipped with electric and heated first-row seat, keyless entry, cruise control, parking aid, hands free system, a rearview camera and a 7-inch monitor.
