Giorgetto Giugiaro together with his son Fabrizio has resigned from the company that bears their name. Before doing this, he sold the remaining 9.9 per cent of Italdesign to Audi June 28, 2015.
Why the legendary automotive designer decided to do this remains unclear. As Automotive News supposes, Giorgetto Giugiaro would like to have more leisure time, while running Italdesign is extremely time-consuming. Obviously, there isn’t another option but to make a choice. Still, the company he founded won’t stagnate. It’s going to develop and surprise the world with even more fascinating designs.
As a quick refresher, Giorgetto Giugiaro established Italdesign in 1968 along with Aldo Mantovani. Through its history, the company designed hundreds of concept and production cars for the most prominent world automakers such as Volkswagen, BMW, Audi, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, DeLorean, Fiat, Daihatsu, Maserati, Renault, Seat, Subaru, Suzuki, etc. Apart from creating designs, Italdesign offers engineering, project management, prototyping, testing, etc. to automakers worldwide. In 2010, Volkswagen acquired 90.1 per cent of the company.
