Chevrolet Camaro 2016
This is it: Chevrolet has finally introduced the 6th generation of its renowned Camaro sports car. As distinct from the predecessor of 2015 model year, the new version of 2016 model year is differentiated by a more nimble look, a lightweight construction and a redesigned interior. Of course, there is a bunch of other offerings, described in our Chevrolet Camaro 2016 review.
The next-gen Camaro is all about smooth lines, classy look, aerodynamic construction, fastback roofline and muscular fenders, but painfully familiar exterior. If compared with Camaro 2015, it has become shorter (4784 mm), slimmer (1897 mm) and lower (1348 mm). The wheelbase makes up 2811 mm.
The manufacturer has integrated an all-new MacPherson strut suspension. It features a double-pivot design that is responsible for the front axle; in turn, an updated five-link independent suspension takes care of the rear part.
The model is introduced in two versions: RS and SS. Both are equipped with LED backlight for taillights, accessory light alignment, LED navigation lights, and HID projector headlamps. Besides, SS modifications have at hand a spoiler and a Magnetic Ride Control from GM. All versions are available in ten color variations.
Unlike the predecessors, Camaro 2016 boasts a more sophisticated interior layout. The trim has got a qualitative finish (in five different colors). The central console features a user-friendly interface, while the steering wheel offers full comfort on maneuvering. The inbuilt ventilation grids accommodate dedicated arches which are called to adjust the speed of fan and regulate temperature without additional buttons.
At the start, the SS model houses Brembo brakes; however, customers are free to mount them to any other Camaro modification. Mechanical brake handle, previously found near the gearbox, is now substituted by an electronic parking brake. Moreover, dealers promise to ship new sports units with a comprehensive accessory kit that consists of wheels, in particular.
To continue with Chevrolet Camaro 2016 review, the infotainment system resides on a dashboard with an 8-inch HD display that demonstrates performance and navigation data. There is one more 8-inch display, located in the central stack. It is a home for the next-gen MyLink multimedia system and accompanying LED lighting. The majority of controls sit below the screen; heating and cooling keys reside around the air ducts.
Chevy Camaro 6th gen offers a perfect balance of performance and refinement. It supports for a sportier and a more aggressive steering, combined with an ultimate safety. Each model is available either with six-speed manual transmission or eight-speed automatic one. The integration of Magnetic Ride Control adaptive suspension allows for the switch between three diverse programs which manipulate control dampers to test multiple driving styles.
Chevy’s engineers have improved active exhaust system. Now electronically controlled valves can baulk attenuators – as a result, the car demonstrates higher performance but the noise level is fiercer.
New Camaro will be powered by one out of three available engines. The least powerful solution is a 2.0 L turbo-four engine that provides for 275 horsepower and 295 pf of torque. Such specs guarantee the acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in six seconds.
The second in a row is a 3.6 L V-6 engine. It employs an upgraded direct injection, cylinder deactivation and permanently variable valve timing. It provides for 335 horsepower and 284 pf of torque. According to Chevy’s engineers, it’s the mightiest V-6 in the segment, surpassing even Ford Mustang’s 3.7 L V-6 solution.
The third engine type – 6.2 L V-8 – might be found in the top-tier SS modification. It offers some astounding 445 horsepower and 455 pf of torque. It is more powerful than the Mustang GT by 20 horsepower, although it lags behind the Challenger by 30 horsepower.
